More please? I SAID MORE!!!!

We suffered through a stomach bug a few weeks ago and Mom and Dad began to worry that Fidget's diet had changed as a result. Before getting ill, Fidget used to eat with a hollow pair of legs, and there were certain foods that Fidget used to gobble down that she was suddenly no longer interested in. We are no longer so concerned! In the last couple of days, she has gone back to eating just about everything in sight, especially food on other people's plates.

The other night we had some friends over for dinner and so it was a more extended affair than usual, with dessert at the table. We have tried very hard to eat at the same time as Fidget to avoid her begging around the edges of the table. Since the dinner lasted a little longer than usual, she was out of her high chair and wandering around when we started to serve dessert. She saw Daddy get some cake and immediately came over, mouth open, looking for handouts. Daddy dutifully picked up Fidget and put her in his lap, intending to share a little bit of the cake with her.

Fidget was okay with the arrangement for a few seconds, during which Daddy got the sign for "more" a couple times and fed Fidget a few bites of cake. Fidget quickly got distraught that Daddy was not shoveling cake in her mouth the way she normally likes to eat and got more insistent, adding some agitated "unh's" to the "more" sign. That wasn't working either, so Fidget gave up with communication and went straight to grabbing what she wanted. Daddy had tried to put the plate just our of reach, so first Fidget grabbed the plate and yanked (not pulled) it toward her. Then, she dug into the cake with her fist and started piling cake into her mouth, just like at her birthday party. Daddy tried pushing the plate back away and got an irritated look, another plate grab and more stuffing Fidget's mouth. At that point, the entertainment value was too great, so Daddy gave up and Fidget got to have her cake and eat it too.
