Summer Recap--July

Once back in CT, we celebrated the 4th of July with some friends in Ridgefield. The fireworks had been delayed until Saturday because of bad weather, so we had a picnic with Fidget's friends Alex and Chase, and had a great time playing until the fireworks started.

Fidget wasn't such a fan of the fireworks. They were a little loud for her comfort level, so she snuggled up tightly with mom. She kept her ears buried in my arms and would occasionally offer up a half -hearted "cool" because we kept trying to get her to watch and would say," isn't that cool?" She eventually lost insterest and ended up going to sleep. It was rather a long show, and it was way past her bedtime!

Fidget then got sick and ran fever for a week. The doctor just said she had a bad summer cold, and that it would probably last up to 2 weeks. She did improve over the two week period, but she's not gotten rid of this awful congestion, and she even started running fever again this past Thursday,so back to the doctor we went...this time she had a red throat, and she was tested for strep, but that came back negative, thank goodness. But we would like to get rid of this crummy cold and now fever! We've already spent two weeks pent up in the house this summer, and we're not looking forward to more of that!

We've also been busy with family visits. Just as Fidget was getting over the two-week cold, Grandma and "Papa" (as Fidget has dubbed him) Conklin were here for a few days. We took them to the Bronx Zoo and to Mystic Seaport. Anytime we can get to a zoo to see the "anmals" is a great day in Fidget's book. Here she is checking out the groundhogs in the children's zoo.And she LOVED the boats at Mystic Seaport!

Grandma and Papa even bought a "kitty" pool for Fidget, and at home she loved playing in it.

And she also loved to wear Papa's hat around the house and drag grandma's purse around from place to place. Right after Grandma and Papa left, my Aunt Gabie came to visit. Her childhood nickname was "Bunny," and that's how I knew her as a small child, "Aunt Bunny." So, all morning before we went to pick her up, I kept telling Fidget that "Aunt Bunny" was coming to see her. When we were on the way to the train to pick her up, Fidget was jabbering all the way to the train, "Rabbit! Train!" So we got quite a kick out of her calling Bunny "Rabbit." We had a great time while "Rabbit" was here. We took her to the Aqaurim in Norwalk, and we also went to Tarrytown (better known to many in the literary world as Sleepy Hollow) in the Hudson River Valley to tour Lyndhurst, one of the train barron mansions. Fidget spent the rest of the week looking for "Rabbit" after she left!

Hey, two days, and two posts! I might actually be able to catch up before the summer is over, after all!
