Listen, listen!

What is probably not apparent from our recent posts is just how much little Fidget is learning to talk. Yes, she happily responds to questions when she's in the mood (see, the bit about the blue "Eis Poom" below). But, what is becoming more common now is that Fidget will tell us all about something that interests her in a sequence of short one and two word sentences and hand gestures. It's a little like a bizarre game of charades where you're allowed to speak. A favorite topic lately is the Swedish Chef from the Muppets (yes, she's now addicted to M-b-puppets, although we try to limit her TV time and have days without it). The conversation usually goes something like:

Fidget: "Chef! Chef! Mbpuppets!" (hands in air, excitedly)

Kd or MAC: "Swedish Chef?" (Fidget nods her head, serious expression)

Fidget: "Hat! Hat!" (hands now beside head for tall chef's hat)

Us: "The chef's hat?" (more head nodding, still serious)

Fidget: "Veit! Hat veit!" (Fidget's pidgin German for white hat, still making 'hat' sign)

Us: "He has a white hat?" (Furious head nodding now, starting to smile)

Fidget: "Nut nuts! Chef nut nuts!" (VERY excited about getting to the end of the story, big smiles)

Us: "That's right, the chef made donuts one episode! (big smiles for everyone!)

Sometimes we hear about another episode with the "Chicken" that gives the "Chef" a bomb instead of the "egg" that he wants, and he goes "Boom! Boom!".

Fidget also loves to read her fairy tales book to us. The other night, instead of having me read a story to her, I was told quite clearly, "I read to Daddy". So, I listened to a somewhat less understandable story about the "muhmade" and "shahk" (Little Mermaid), which somehow included "Rella" (Cinderella) and "Snow Veit" and the "dorfs" (this one ought to be understandable on its own!).
