Mrs. Harrington says...

Linus was in 4 year old nursery school last year with the same teacher Fidget had a couple years earlier, Mrs. Harrington.  She is a great teacher and taught Linus quite a lot during the last year.  He also developed a sense of hierarchy of authority and an understanding that citing respectable sources to back your position can help your argument during that time.  Near the end of the school year, we started getting supporting citations for anything Linus wanted to do that might be contrary or different from what Kd and I were telling him.  Typically, it started with, "Mrs. Harrington says...," or "Mrs. Harrington showed me the right way to do...."  Ay attempt to modify this understanding of his world view resulted in vigorous rebuttals and repetition of the source of all knowledge, Mrs. Harrington.

It actually got so common that as Kd was writing Mrs. Harrington an email to tell her about this, Linus started showing Kd the right way to put Chapstick on his lips (originally shown to him by Kd) while citing Mrs. Harrington as the source of this knowledge and life skill.  He refused to acknowledge that it might have been his mother, not the teacher who showed him this skill.

Now that Linus is in pre-K, the citations have shifted to the current teacher Ms. Mallico, but the argument form is the same, and he always knows that he's right.  Possibly a future politician or lawyer after all?
