We've taken two trips to NYC this past week. Last Saturday, we visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the first time as a family. Fidget really likes the Classical Baby Art Show video, so we thought it might be fun to go see some paintings for real. Unfortunately, the Met thought 2007 would be a really good year to renovate large parts of the museum that Mom & Dad like the most. We did get to see a very few of the 19th Century European paintings collection, including a Monet that is in the video. As soon as Fidget saw the painting, she started sticking her tongue out repeatedly and looking at us questioningly - she wanted to know where were the frogs from the video that swim in the painting. The same thing happened in front of a Jackson Pollack painting - where were the bees (bzzzing this time)? Fidget seemed to enjoy the museum, but was a little confused that there wasn't any music or animals like in the videos.
We also went into Central Park and visited a small playground near the museum. Fidget had great fun on the swings and going in circles up and down a jungle gym slide.
We were in New York again on Thursday and Friday taking advantage of Dad attending a Legal conference. Mom & Dad got to to go the theater since Aunt Nicole was very generous and offered to babysit instead of going to the show. Fidget had her first pre-theater dinner while sitting in a booster seat and she did very well. The restaurant had a paper-covered top and crayons for kids to draw, so Fidget spent a large part of dinner drawing on the paper solidly covering the area of the table directly in front of her.
As we split up after dinner, Mom & Dad give Fidget kisses and said goodnight to Fidget & Aunt Nicole, but poor Fidget didn't realize that it wasn't Mom or Dad pushing the stroller. Fidget was both surprised and upset to find out that Mom & Dad had disappeared somewhere between the restaurant and the hotel room. She got over it soon enough so Mom & Dad didn't have to leave the show.
Friday, Mom & Fidget got out around town a little in the nice weather, so Fidget got to play in Central Park again, and Mom (who really should have known better -- and just taken a cab) questioned how anyone with a small child is supposed to use the NYC subway. Overall it was a good trip and we're looking forward to more as Fidget gets older and can enjoy more of NYC with us.
