Well, it's been a while since Kd or I sat at the keyboard to type up a new story about Fidget, or her brother Linus. They are now closer to 7 and 5 than 6 and 4. Fidget still loves to dance and now plays soccer, swims like a fish, and ice skates as well. She finished Kindergarten and loves to write and illustrate her own stories, most of which have titles eerily similar to Nancy Drew mysteries. Many titles start out something like: The Mystere Abut the Faree Who... And involve her two favorite things: mysteries and princesses or fairies. These stories get as long as 15 sheets of paper with elaborate drawings and captions for the characters. While the spelling has a ways to go, she works at it so hard all on her own, and it is amazing how prolific she can be. She like to read too, and has a challenge from Kd to read the books in the American Girl doll historical series before she can get a companion for the one she got on her 6th birthday. Kd reads to her, but she takes turns too and is getting better and better at it. She needs to in this family! She is still the sweetest little girl, even if she is getting taller and growing up a little more every day.
Linus is another story all his own. He'll be in the five year old pre-K in the fall, but he's shown that he can recognize some words already if he has the context. He saw the DVD screen in the van the other day and asked why it said "no disc" while Kd was swapping movies - no one had told him what it says. While Fidget will either be an English major like mom and Nanny, or maybe a lawyer, we need to check into early admissions at MIT for Linus. He's all about how thing work, and "triskely" (electricity) in particular fascinates him. During all the power outs we had last Fall, he got a little confused between GE and "the electric company" that was fixing the power lines. Not sure that I've cleared that up for him, but he was really excited that one of his best friend's dad also works for GE.
Linus hasn't done it too recently, maybe two weeks ago now, but one to smile about to end the post is to explain his word for the bits of dust in the air that are visible when the sunlight streams through the window. The first time he really noticed them, he got so excited about the "sun bugs" and tried to chase them off, out of his room. One year later, he's still after them!
