Playing catch up...again!

There has not been much time to write, nor have I felt I had much to say or report...on a single day's activities. And since I've waited to to add to the blog, it seems that there are just a few things that have happened and it seems we may have another lengthy post! (Sorry!)

Over the last few weeks we've enjoyed visits from MAC's cousin, Amy, from Seattle and having MAC's family for Easter. Fidget LOVED Amy and enjoyed having a new friend around to entertain, and she loved to say Amy's name, which was fun for us to hear her call someone by name! We spent a wonderful Sunday afternoon with Amy at the New York Botanical Gardens, where we saw the Orchid show. And when Fidget's grandparents and aunt and uncle were here, she was thrilled to have more people for whom she could show off. However, during the first afternoon of their visit, Fidget took a small tumble off the bottom stair, and she hit the bottom spindle of the banister with her top front left tooth, which was knocked backwards. On the way to the ER, she managed to straighten it herself with her tongue and pacifier. At the ER we were told there was nothing they could do, that we just needed to wait and see if the tooth started to tighten up on its own.

This last Thusday, a week after the accident, Fidget made her first trip to the dentist. The dentist confirmed her suspicions with an x-ray. Fidget has a fracture in her jaw where the tooth is held in. The tooth is slightly lower and further to the left than it used to be, but there is still nothing to do other than keep her on a soft diet for another couple of weeks and wait to see if there are any other changes to the tooth or not. Because of her age, there is actually a good chance that she'll keep her tooth.

So the major development from all of this is that Fidget is now Nah-Nah free! 48 hours and counting! The dentist said that since the tooth was still loose that it would cause more problems and delay the healing process. The dentist recommended that we just let her have it at night, which is where we were before the accident. Fidget only had it for sleeping and naps, but after the accident, we let her have it constantly because we thought that it might actually help protect her. Silly us! Anyway, once we made the break, we decided we needed to make it a clean break. Funny how we waffled on that idea as we listened to her scream herself to sleep that first night as we both stood outside of her room, nah-nah in hand, debating whether or not we were doing the right thing. But Fidget calmed down rather quickly, and we then went and hid the stash! Of course now that she no longer has the Nah-Nah, her fingers are constantly in her mouth. She's cutting her last two teeth on top. They broke through sometime in the last week. Once these are in, we only have the 2 year molars to go, and we hope that the finger chewing will stop soon.

Her other new trick over the last couple of weeks is that she has finally started using "Mama" or "Mommy!" She would say "Daddy" all the time before, so you know how thrilled I was when she began to call for me too! Though today was a Daddy day. Poor MAC couldn't leave the room or car without her calling for her "Dadadeeee!" She knows it's Saturday, and today she was supposed to be with him.

I'm sure I'm forgetting something, as she seems to have a new trick every single day, but that's all this mommy's brain is able to remember right now. Hopefully we'll post again before May!
